Just In: Jose Mourinho’s Talisman Now Prefers Manchester United
Former Porto champions League winner and South African legend Bennl McCarthy is keen on landing the managerial job of Manchester United.
McCarthy, 37, was under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho as a player in FC Porto – when Mourinho moved to Chelsea, he lured players like Deco, Paulo Ferreira and Ricardo Carvalho to Stamford Bridge but his entire attempt to add the South African ended in futility.
However, McCarthy realized his dream of playing in the Premier League. He featured for West Ham and Black burn. Although, he’s retired from playing, the South African is now undergoing coaching training and he is hoping to lock horns against Mourinho as the Red Devils coach someday.
When quizzed on why he did not lace his boot for Chelsea in his stint in the Premier League, he told FourFourTwo magazine that:
“When Blackburn came in for me, I spoke to Mourinho at Chelsea.
“Porto refused to sell any players to Mourinho and he advised me: ‘Move to England, do well for a season and if you’re still the player I had at Porto, I’ll come and get you.’
“I did well for Blackburn, who got me for just £2.5m. Then they wouldn’t sell me to Chelsea.
“After that Chelsea move fell through, my career went up in smoke.”
